“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:1–5
One of my favorite books of the Bible is the Book of John. There is something comforting about this Gospel. John’s Gospel goes back to the beginning to situation God as the center of creation. The book is about Jesus, but God is the center and the source of all things. John was written approximately thirty years after the other three Gospels. The early Christians may have needed a reminder that God was in control of all things. Including this new journey with the Holy Spirit as they were baptizing, preaching, and gathering to celebrate Holy Communion.
How easy is it sometimes to forget that God is the center and the source of it all? Sometimes, we get wrapped up in our day to day and forget to stop and glorify the one who created everything since the very beginning. The one who sent his son to die and be resurrected for each of us. The one who formed each of you in God’s own infinite image. The one who is our hope, our peace, and our joy. Be reminded that you are precious in God’s sight. That you are redeemed by the saving grace of God through the acts of Jesus Christ and you are sustained by the power of the Holy Spirit. You are a beloved child of God.
This week begins our Bible Study on the Book of John. All are welcome to join us on Wednesdays in the Fellowship Hall at 10 am. All are welcome!
